What is Hernia

Hernia is a protrusion of tissue through an abnormal opening in the abdominal wall. It's a bulge that one can feel and see. Normally, hernias form in and around the naval groin, upper leg and old surgical scars. Some hernias form from birth, while others form from lifting and straining injuries in both young and old persons.

Type of hernias?
Abdominal Wall Hernias
Umbilical: This is a common type that occurs among the belly button. It usually forms from birth and enlarges over time

Groin Hernias
Inguinal: In men, the inguinal canal contains the spermatic cord and its blood supply. In women, the inguinal canal contains the round ligament, a supporting structure of the uterus. Tissue pushing into the canal causes a hernia. The bulge is seen or felt above the leg crease.
Femoral: The demoral canal contains the femoral artery, vein and nerve, thick supply the leg. Tissue pushing into the canal causes a hernia. The bulge is seen below the leg crease. This hernia is common in women.
